Kronotsky Reserve

Kronotsky Reserve Established in 1934. The area is more than a million hectare. The successor of Soboliny Reserve. It is located in the eastern part of Kamchatka. The main objects are volcanoes, including Kronotskaya Sopka, the Valley of Geysers, waterfalls, thermal lakes. The stone birch forests cover the most of the territory. The vegetation changes near the Kronotsky Lake: larch, fir tree, paper birch. Poplar, alder, linden grow nearby the rivers. Fauna: bears, elks, sables, whales, and so on.

Komandorskiye Islands

Komandorskiye Islands The reserve is established in 1993. It occupies about 3.5 million hectares. It consists of 4 large and about 60 small islands. The flora is represented by 400 plant species. Fauna: 25 species – mammals, 170 – birds, 250 – fish. Emperor goose, sea beaver, and gerfalcon are recorded in the Red Book. The historic site is the grave of explorer Bering located near his mid- XVIII expedition station.

Three Brothers Cliffs

Three Brothers Cliffs They are situated at the very entrance to Avacha Bay in the south-east of the peninsula, three hundred meters offshore. They represent three rocky pillars projecting from the water. There are heavy currents and canyon at the depth of 13 m with the cave. They have been known since the XVIII century. According to the legend, these are three brothers-defenders who have done their duty by the bay, that is have saved from the large wave, and then hardened into stone. The symbol of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Kurile Lake

Kurile Lake It is situated in the south part of the peninsula. It belongs to the territory of the natural area. First mentioned in 1740. The area is 77, the average depth – about 195 m. It flows into several rivers with one river, Ozernaya, flowing out. The water level varies depending on the season. There are small islands. Redfish run here for spawning. Brown bear harbors in the area: the number of head is about two hundred nearshore.

The Valley of Geysers

The Valley of Geysers, the part of the Kronotsky Reserve. The geyser field is the only one in Eurasia. The territory of 6 square kilometers includes mud volcanoes, geysers, lakes, thermal springs, rivers, and waterfalls. Landslides and mudslides are a normal process in the valley that influences the microclimate and newly formed structures proliferating from year to year. Access for tourists is restricted. Helicopter excursions are arranged.

Avacha Bay

Avacha Bay Found out in 1729. It is a part of the water area of the same-name bay of the Pacific Ocean. It is situated in the south-east of Kamchatka, there is the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky by its side. It does not freeze all over the year. It is the main port of the peninsula. Both industrial and cargo vessels are served here. Total area – 215, average depth – about 9 m. It can accept any type vessel existing in the world.

Dead Forest

Dead Forest It is situated in close proximity to Tolbachik and has been formed after the heavy eruption of this volcano in the mid-1970s. Lava and rock ejections have made the territory as the burnt desert. Approximate area of the forest is 40 The ash and scoria layer is still mixed up with soil. The tree trunks remained lifeless and black. There are some rare and small green sites occurring nowadays.

Blue Lakes

Blue Lakes This is the system of lakes situated in the south-east of Kamchatka. They belong to the nature park. Three lakes are in close proximity to each other and linked with streams surrounded by bald mountains. The name originated from the watercolor during the melting of snow: the level raises and the ice being flooded reflects the light in a particular way. Both large trees, like cedar, and small blueberry, saxifrage bushes, and so on grown near the shores.

Nalychevo Nature Park

Nalychevo Nature Park It was established in 1995, it is situated in the valley of the same-name river. The area is 287,000 ha. There are several large volcanoes around. Features and places of interest: mineral springs, both hot and cold, having curative properties, unique flora and fauna – some of them are recorded in the Red Book, nature museum, the Kalashnikov gun monument, the center of ecological education.

Bystrinsky Nature Park

Bystrinsky Nature Park It is protected by UNESCO. The natural features: more than a dozen of volcanoes, the highest is Ichinsky, mountain rivers to arrange floating, meadows – the ideal places for horse riding, a unique ecosystem with diversified flora and fauna. There is a museum of the history of the Kamchatka peoples. Unusual holidays and events, like sled dog races or Reindeer Breeder’s day, are held.

Malkinskiye Hot Springs

Malkinskiye Hot Springs They are located in the south of the peninsula. They belong to the valley of River Klyuchevka, spring from the soil, and fill the natural basins. Both local residents and tourists bathe here. The temperature varies and is unstable. The recorded water maximum in the springs is +84°С. The mineral composition of each spring is different from the neighboring one. The bottled water production plant and resort work nearby. The tourists arrange camps thereabout.

Aquarium Natural Boundary

Aquarium Natural Boundary It is located on River Levaya Avacha. The name is given primarily due to the peculiarities of the area: tectonic fracture and margins of the water reservoir in combination with clean water look like aquarium afar. The thirty-meter rock, like a viewing deck, gives a beautiful view of the natural boundary. Numerous tourists have made paths that is why it not difficult to know the way around.

Klyuchevsky Nature Park

Klyuchevsky Nature Park It is situated in the east of the peninsula. It belongs to the forest fund territory. There are more than a dozen of volcanoes of different origins in its territory. The same-name volcano is the most active one in the world. Its height is not permanent due to the hardened lava. Each of the sides of the park domineering the area has its peculiarities. The plants are primarily low. The fauna is few.

South Kamchatka Nature Park

South Kamchatka Nature Park It is situated in the territory of the forest fund along the Pacific coast. There are no roads and economic activities at all, there is practically no access to ground transport. The river network is wandering and extended. It is a spawning place for several subspecies of salmons. The forests are diversified by the type of vegetation. The relief is complex and difficult to pass in some places. The minimum human influence allowed for the fauna representatives, including bears, to breed.

Vilyuchinsky Waterfall

Vilyuchinsky Waterfall It is situated in the south of the peninsula on the same-name volcano hillsides. Its height is 40 m. It was formed from deglaciation. There is a highway nearby but some part of the way to the natural place of interest is to be passed on foot. The forest is dense but not high in some places. The landscape is corrected depending on the season: the mudslides run off and wash out some sand. It fully freezes up in winter.

Khalaktyrsky Beach

Khalaktyrsky Beach It is situated not far from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The water does not warm above +15°С. It is not too suitable for bathing. Some people get burns in summer here. There are windsurfing amateurs here, except for the temperature, the conditions for this sport are ideal. Although there are many visitors, the tourism-related services are not developed: no stores, floating craft lease, entertainment, and amusements.
